Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is revered in Islam as the last messenger of God. His life is marked by numerous extraordinary events and miracles, which are signs of his prophethood. Here are some notable miracles attributed to him:

1. The Noble Quran

The Noble Quran contains verses that indicate its greatness of virtue, and it is filled with numerous lessons, morals, and miracles that leave the mind astonished. Allah, the Almighty, says, "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah." He also says, "And indeed, it is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds".

The miracle of the Quran distinguishes itself from other miracles in that it is eternal and will remain until the Day of Judgment. All other miracles besides the Quran have ceased to exist with the passing of time and the cessation of their causes. Yet the Quran continues to evoke astonishment in the Muslim and non-Muslim alike through its scientific, legislative, and rhetorical miracles. It is narrated from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah said: "Every prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given is Divine Inspiration which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope my followers will outnumber the followers of the other prophets on the Day of Resurrection".

2. Isra' and Mi'raj

The miracle of Isra' and Mi'raj is considered the second greatest miracle endorsed by Allah after the Noble Quran, bestowed upon His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamaa'ah (Sunni Muslims), it is established that the Messenger of Allah ascended with his body and soul while in a state of wakefulness to the heavens, being transported from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to Al-Aqsa Mosque. This is mentioned in the Quran, where Allah says: "Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing".

When the Messenger of Allah reached the heavens, Allah willed for him to ascend to the seventh heaven and beyond, then to Sidrat al-Muntaha near the Paradise of Refuge. He beheld it, spoke with Allah, and was obligated, along with his followers, to perform five prayers daily and night. He saw the Hellfire and the angels and beheld Gabriel in his proper form. All of this was a real experience, not metaphorical or symbolic, and it was an honor and elevation from Allah to him.

Then he descended from the heavens to Al-Aqsa Mosque, where he led the prophets in prayer and returned to Mecca before dawn. Regarding this, Allah says: "Do you dispute with him concerning what he saw? And he certainly saw him in another descent at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - near it is the Garden of Refuge - when there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord".

3. Splitting of the Moon

Allah Almighty supported His Messenger with the miracle of the splitting of the moon. He, glorified be He, said: "The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, 'Passing magic'. And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter, it is a [time of] settlement. And there has already come to them of information in which there is deterrence - extensive wisdom. But warning does not avail [them]".

This incident occurred before the Prophetic migration when the polytheists asked the Messenger of Allah to split the moon for them and pledged to believe if it happened. The Messenger of Allah supplicated to his Lord to split the moon for them, so on the night of the fourteenth of the month, when the moon was at its fullest, Allah split it into two halves. Some of the companions saw Mount Hira between the two halves of the moon. Then, it returned and became whole again. Anas bin Malik narrated that the people of Mecca asked the Messenger of Allah to show them a miracle, so he showed them the moon split into two halves, with Mount Hira in between them.

Allah, the Almighty, associated the mention of the incident of the splitting of the moon with the approach of the Hour. Despite the Quraysh pledging to believe if the moon was split when they witnessed it, they persisted in their stubbornness and arrogance, accusing the Messenger of Allah of sorcery. However, reason dictates that the moon is one of Allah's creations, and He governs it according to His will. He, exalted be He, said: "And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon".

4. Water Gushing from Between His Fingers

During the Battle of Khaybar, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) inserted his arrow into a well, causing the water to multiply abundantly. This miraculous event recurred when the Prophet placed his hand into a water vessel.

Jabir ibn Abdullah narrated: "On the day of Hudaybiyyah, people were extremely thirsty. The Messenger of Allah had a vessel before him, so he performed ablution from it. Then the people approached him, and the Messenger of Allah asked, 'What is the matter with you?' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we do not have any water to perform ablution or to drink except what is in your vessel'. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) put his hand in the vessel, and water began to gush forth between his fingers like springs. He said, 'We drank and performed ablution'. I asked Jabir, 'How many were you on that day?' He said, 'If we were a hundred thousand, it would have been sufficient for us, but we were fifteen hundred'.

5. Blessing in Food

Allah Almighty granted His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) the miracle of multiplying food and increasing its blessings to suffice for many people. An example of this is when the Prophet (peace be upon him) went out to Medina accompanied by 'Amr ibn Fahira and 'Abdullah ibn Ar-Riqād. They passed by the tent of Umm Ma'bad Al-Khuza'iyyah, and the Prophet looked at the sheep and asked about them. She informed him they were weak and tired, unable to keep up with the flock.

He asked if there was any milk, and she replied negatively. So the Prophet asked her for permission to milk the sheep, which she granted, saying, "If you see any milk in her, then milk her". The Prophet then stroked the udder of the sheep with his hand, invoked the name of Allah, and supplicated for it. Milk flowed abundantly from it. He asked for a container large enough for the people, and he began to milk into it until the milk poured rapidly, forming foam on its surface.

After that, Umm Ma'bad drank, and the companions drank until they were satisfied. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) drank, and he sat down to rest. Then he got up and milked again for Umm Ma'bad. When she saw this, she accepted Islam, pledged allegiance to the Prophet, and shortly after, her husband arrived with the flock. The sheep came back as they had left, having not eaten anything. When Abu Ma'bad saw the milk, he was amazed at what had happened.

6. Inanimate Objects and Animals Speak

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) informed that ever since he received revelation, not a tree nor a stone passed by him without greeting him with "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah". Trees would greet him, obey him, and testify to his prophethood. Similarly, when he passed between the valleys and the mountains, they would greet him, and he would respond to their greetings. It's clarified by Ad-Dalji (may Allah have mercy on him) that his response to their greetings was a form of reward, not an obligation, as they are not accountable beings.

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when he and his father were with the Prophet in a valley, the Prophet went to relieve himself, and Jabir followed him with a water vessel. Finding no privacy, the Prophet saw two trees nearby. He went to one, held onto its branch, and said, "Stand steady by the permission of Allah". It responded and bent toward him. Then he went to the other tree and did the same, and it responded. When they were close together, with the Prophet in between them, he commanded them to come together, and they joined side by side. Jabir, fearing the Prophet's awareness of his presence, moved away and sat at a distance. Suddenly, the Prophet approached, and the two trees separated, each standing independently. The Prophet pointed in both directions, then turned to Jabir and asked if he had seen his position. Jabir replied affirmatively. The Prophet instructed him to go to the trees, take a branch from each, and place one on his right and the other on his left. Jabir did so and informed the Prophet, who then said, "I passed by two graves whose occupants were being tormented. I asked Allah, through their intercession, to relieve them as long as these two branches remain moist".

Jabir also narrated that on Fridays, when the Prophet delivered his sermon, he would stand by a tree or a date palm. One day, a woman from the Ansar asked him, "Shall we not build for you a pulpit, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "If you wish". So they built one for him. The following Friday, when the Prophet ascended the pulpit to deliver the sermon, the tree or date palm cried out and wailed like a child. The Prophet descended and embraced it until it quieted down, as it was lamenting for the loss of the remembrance it used to hear. Anas ibn Malik narrated that a group of the Ansar had a camel they used to carry water. They found it difficult, and they were not enthusiastic about it. As a result, the palms and the crops dried up. They complained to the Prophet, who went with his companions towards the camel. The Ansar feared for the Prophet from the camel, as it had become unruly. The Prophet assured them that it would not harm him. When the camel saw the Prophet, it approached him, knelt, and bowed its head, submissive before him.

Among the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad is that food praises Allah in his hands, and its praise can be heard. The blessing of Allah reaches the food he holds, and the food feels like it is in the hands of the best of prophets. It praises Allah until its praise is heard. This praising of inanimate objects is a miracle. Additionally, Zaynab bint al-Harith, the wife of Salamah ibn Mashkam, asked about the dearest part of the sheep to the Prophet Muhammad. She was told it was the foreleg. She prepared a sheep, poisoned it, and put a lot of poison in the foreleg. Then, she presented it to the Prophet Muhammad. When he ate from it, he did not swallow. He knew that the foreleg had informed him that it was poisoned. He also instructed Bashir ibn al-Bara' to eat from it, and he did swallow. Then, the Prophet inquired about Zaynab, who confessed her act. When asked about the motive, she said she wanted to test whether he was a king and would die or a prophet and would be informed of the poison. The Prophet forgave her, but Bashir died from the poison he consumed.

7. Healing of the Sick

Allah, the Most High, granted His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) the ability to cure the sick, just as He did with His Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). Some of his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were healed by him, such as the healing of Ali ibn Abi Talib's eye. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar: "I will give this flag to a man whom Allah will grant victory through his hands. He loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him". The people spent their night eagerly awaiting to be chosen, and when morning came, they all hoped to be chosen. The Prophet asked for Ali ibn Abi Talib, and they told him that he was suffering from eye pain. The Prophet sent for him, and when he arrived, the Prophet spat into his eyes and prayed for him, and he was cured as if he had never had any pain. Then, the Prophet handed him the flag.

Abu Rafi' ibn Abi al-Huqaiq was a well-known merchant in Mecca and one of the staunchest enemies of Islam and the Muslims. He formed anti-Muslim factions and supported them. He also harassed the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After the Muslims dealt with the Banu Qurayzah, the Khazraj came seeking permission from the Prophet to kill Abu Rafi'. The Prophet permitted them but prohibited them from killing women and children. Five men from the Banu Salamah commanded Abdullah ibn Atik to carry out the task, and they went and killed him. On their way back, Abdullah broke his leg. He tied it with a bandage, and when he reached the Prophet, the Prophet ordered him to stretch out his leg. He did so, and the Prophet wiped over it, and he was healed as if he had never had any injury.

8. Informing about Future Events

Knowledge of the unseen (Ghaib) is one of the things that Allah hides from His creatures. One of Allah's miracles for His messengers is informing them through revelation about the unseen, confirming the truth of their prophethood. Allah says: "Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone except whom He has approved of messengers" (Quran 72:26-27). Allah Almighty revealed to His Prophet (peace be upon him) matters of the unseen that would occur in the future to serve as miracles and signs of his prophethood.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) informed us about many unseen matters, each of which is a miracle in itself. Some of these events happened during his lifetime, some occurred after his death, and some are yet to happen. Hudhaifah ibn Al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) once delivered a sermon in which he left out nothing until the Day of Judgment, mentioning whatever he knew. Whoever heard it remembered it, and whoever forgot it forgot it. I used to see things, but I would remember them when something reminded me of them" (reported in Sahih Muslim).

Among the events the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) informed about during his lifetime were the Persians' defeat and the Romans' victory a few years later. He also knew about the letter sent by Hatib ibn Abi Balta'ah to the pagans, informing them of the Prophet's plans to conquer Mecca. Additionally, he prophesied about capturing the bangles of Chosroes, the Persian emperor, during the Migration, which indeed happened during the caliphate of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).

Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed about events that would happen after his death, such as the conquest of various lands. He mentioned these while digging the trench during the Battle of the Trench when he identified a rock and saw the lands within it. Additionally, he spoke about the signs of the Hour and the conditions of people in the latter times.

9. Description of the Battle of Mu'tah While in Medina

One of the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was his knowledge of the events and incidents of the Battle of Mu'tah, one of the battles in which the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not participate. It took place on the outskirts of the Levant in the eighth year of the Hijra. The Prophet, peace be upon him, saw its events while he was sitting in Medina. It is narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, sat on the pulpit in the mosque, and the people around him, so he began to inform them in detail about its events. He even informed them about the martyrdom of the three leaders. When the army returned, the people found its events matching what the Prophet, peace be upon him, had informed them about.

Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "The Prophet, peace be upon him, announced to the people the deaths of Zaid, Ja'far, and Ibn Rawahah before news of their deaths reached them. He said: 'Zaid took the flag and was killed, then Ja'far took it and was killed, then Ibn Rawahah took it and was killed, and his eyes were shedding tears until a sword from the swords of Allah took over until Allah granted them victory'. Sheikh Sharaawi said in his interpretation that the Battle of Mu'tah was named a Ghazwa, not a Sariyah, because the Prophet described it, so Muslims considered it a Ghazwa".

10. Shaq al-Sadr

Miracles were present throughout the life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, even from his birth. One such miracle is the opening of the Prophet's chest, which occurred when he was five years old while he was in the wilderness with his foster mother, Halimah al-Sa'diyah. While he was playing with his peers, Gabriel came to him, opened his chest, took out his heart, and removed a black clot, which was the share of Satan from it. The mark of this opening remained on the chest of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was playing with some boys when Gabriel came to him, laid him down, split open his chest, took out his heart, and removed a clot from it, saying, 'This was the share of Satan from you'. Then he washed it with Zamzam water in a golden basin and put it back in its place. The boys came running to his mother, meaning his foster mother, saying, 'Muhammad has been killed!' They gathered around him and found his color had changed. Anas said, 'I could still see the stitching mark on his chest'".
