Ali ibn Abi al-Aas
Lineage of Ali ibn Abi al-Aas
He is Ali ibn Abi al-Aas ibn al-Rabie ibn Abdul Uzza ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf. His father's name was Abi al-Aas, also known as Al-Qasim or Muhassim, among other names. His mother was Zainab bint Muhammad, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad and sister of Fatimah al-Zahra, the lady of all women. His stepmother was Umamah bint Abi al-Aas, whom Ali ibn Abi Talib married after the death of Fatimah al-Zahra. Zainab passed away in 7 AH or 8 AH.
Life of Ali ibn Abi al-Aas
Ali was fostered among the Banu Ghadirah, and the Prophet Muhammad took him under his care while his father was still a polytheist. The Prophet Muhammad said, "Whoever shares with me in the upbringing of my sons, I have more right to them than he does. And whoever associates with a Muslim in something, a Muslim has more right to it than he does". In another narration, it's mentioned that he was breastfed in the house of Banu Ghadirah, and the Prophet separated him from them. Abi al-Aas was a polytheist in Mecca, and the Prophet Muhammad stated, "Whoever shares with me in something, I have more right to it than he does".
Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari reported, "When the Prophet entered Mecca on the Day of the Conquest, he placed Ali behind him on his camel". Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani also mentioned, "The Prophet was riding with Ali behind him on his camel on the Day of the Conquest of Mecca".
Death of Ali ibn Abi al-Aas
Al-Zubair said, "Umar ibn Abi Bakr al-Musili narrated to me, 'Ali ibn Abi al-Aas passed away when he was nearly mature.'" Ibn Mundhir reported, "Ali passed away while still a child during the lifetime of the Prophet". Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari added, "Ali passed away when he was nearly mature during the lifetime of the Prophet". Ibn Asakir stated, "Some scholars of genealogy mentioned that he was killed on the Day of Yarmouk".
